The family of Danny Sakai is inviting the Big Bear community to join them in a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 20. Come share stories, laugh, smile and remember the amazing man Danny was and the incredible life he lived. Food and beverages will be available at the 3pm event at Snow Summit’s Bear Bottom Lodge, and proceeds will go directly to support the Daniel T. Sakai Memorial Scholarship Fund. To share Danny’s love of the outdoors, you are welcome to join a group mountain bike ride or enjoy the Scenic Sky Chair prior to the celebration. For the bike ride, come ready to ride in honor of “Danny Boy” and meet Tom Spiegel and the staff of Team Big Bear at 12:30pm at the Scenic Sky Chair for a nine mile, 1½ hour ride of the Grandview Loop. For any questions about the bike ride, call Tom Spiegel at 909/633-6729. For the Scenic Sky Chair ride, enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery any time after 10am. Tickets are available at Snow Summit, or ride free for a donation of $25 or more to the Daniel T. Sakai Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Daniel T. Sakai Memorial Scholarship has been set up through the Steven G. Mihaylo Big Bear High School Education Foundation, to provide scholarships for graduating seniors or mini-grants to teachers in all the different schools in the Bear Valley Unified School District.
