The Bowling Barn has named their Bowler of the Year, after an exciting finals tournament on Sunday, February 21. Eighteen-year-old Brooke Juliana bowled her way from a fifth place ranking to win the 2009 Cruise One Bowler of the Year title, earning her a seven-day cruise for two from tournament sponsor Cruise One. Twelve local bowlers, each title-holders as Bowler of the Month during 2009, competed in a roll-off to determine the finalists for the Bowler of the Year competition. As the #5 qualifier, Juliana’s first match was against her older brother Brian Juliana; in her second round, Brooke Juliana, whose average is 140, strung together five strikes to overtake Scott Bowden, a bowler with an 184 average. Juliana then achieved victory over Tony Diaz in the semi-finals, and ultimately out-bowled top ranked qualifier Barbara Carson to win the championship by 16 pins with a 181 game. The 2010 Bowler of the Year competition begins in March, and the new format will allow for league bowlers to qualify on their league night; the prizes offered for this year’s tournament include one free year of bowling and $250 cash.
