Big Bear, Ca April 30, 2011 12:00 pm – The Sugar Pine Bake Shop opened on Big Bear Boulevard near Red Ant Hill in October 2009. The owner Trish Gordon’s delicious confections quickly found their way into Big Bear homes and are often seen at special events around town. In a few weeks, Trish will be opening a satellite location in the Village, where shoppers can enjoy her cupcakes, cookies, lemon bars, cinnamon rolls, and croissants, along with french roast coffee, hot cocoa, tea, or soda. This summer, a new creation will be added to the menu, homemade ice cream sandwiches. Trish told KBHR, “Everything is made from scratch. I come from a tradition of quality, well-made, good ingredients.” She says she likes to create new desserts inspired by many traditions. One example is a family recipe a friend gave Trish for Hoosier Pie. “It’s a cross between creme brulee and bread pudding” she explains. “And we make a darned good cannoli too.” After the new shop is open, the main bakery will continue to offer these treats, as well as the fresh baked artisan breads, wedding and special occasion cakes that the shop has become known for. The bakery is open weekends, with the cake studio open Wednesdays, Thursdays and by appointment. The location in the village is set to open May 20 and will have extended hours on weekends.
