Big Bear, CA, February 23, 2012, 4:00pm – Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley announced this year’s Man About Town candidates at a luncheon at Northwoods Resort with the three candidates showcasing their campaign themes. Candidates Tim Breunig, Glenn Butcher and Cliff Fowler have thrown their hats in the ring to see who will emerge as the next Man About Town. Last year’s MAT winner, Gus Gonzales, greeted the candidates and guests with enthusiasm for this year’s race with the offer to help in any way he can. Tim Breunig, owner of the United Wood Craftsmen store in the Village, is an artist whose campaign is “Doing his part with the arts” with an event scheduled for April 21st. Glenn Butcher, owner of Butcher’s Block and Building Materials, will center his campaign on building a better community for our kids with his main event on St. Patrick’s Day with a casino night at the North Shore Tavern. Cliff Fowler, of KBHR’s Fowler’s Fish Tales fame, is now known as the “Rod and Wheel Man” concentrating his two loves of fishing and cars into raising money for our kids with his main event on March 24th. Money raised during the nine-week race will continue to be used for their “Stop Teen Violence” program , a quest that began in 2008 for a five-year run. Through the program, Soroptimist has committed to help fund the Healthy Start Program and Safe School Ambassadors Program. Tanya Perry, Director of Healthy Start, stated “ I can’t thank you enough for saving our program because that’s what you’re doing”. Tina Fulmer, Big Bear Middle School Principal, thanked Soroptimist for their recent donation of $20k for surveillance cameras at the school and for helping to fund the Safe School Ambassadors Program that is now at the Middle School with the goal of extending the program to the high school and elementary schools so that our children will find our Valley schools to be a safe environment free of bullying. Last year, the three MAT candidates raised $107k with Soroptimist President, Jo Ann Cecil, stating today that “creative thinking, that’s the game”. Stay tuned to Kbear for future MAT fundraisers information.
