Big Bear Lake, CA, February 20, 2015 – Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley honored three local women, one business and one organization on Thursday, February 19th at their annual awards ceremony entitled this year “Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women”. The Soroptimist Ruby Award was presented to Patty Hafen and Marilyn Vecchio, two women who have demonstrated the ability to improve the quality of life for other women or girls in our community. Patty Hafen was honored for her years of fundraising efforts and dedication to Big Bear Valley’s schools and Marilyn Vecchio has served in healthcare in Big Bear for over 30 years with positions at the Bear Valley Community Healthcare District and the Mom and Dad Project. Single mother of three, Amy Rose, received the Women’s Opportunity Award and a scholarship towards pursuing her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. SIBBV also recognized Nancy and Gus Gonzales of the Hacienda Grill restaurant with a Business Appreciation Award and the Rotary Club of Big Bear Lake received the Organization Appreciation Award for all the good they do for our community. In addition to Soroptimist’s awards, Assemblyman Jay Obernolte presented each honoree with a California Legislature Assembly Certificate of Recognition.
