Sod installation began at The Ranch Sports Complex in Erwin Lake yesterday and, per the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District’s Reese Troublefield, “The complex will be finished and ready for play on July 6, but will be ready to gawk at on Thursday afternoon, if you’re nearby.” With the addition of sod, The Ranch will now have three regulation-size soccer fields, for use by local soccer teams, including those in the Rec & Park adult league. The sod, and attendant fencing, for the three soccer fields amounted to a $200,000 expenditure that was approved by County Supervisors in May. The project is being done by Trinity Construction of Blue Jay, prompting Supervisor Neil Derry to earlier comment, “Not only are we giving our children a place to play, but we are keeping the dollars in the mountain community during this tough economic time. I am excited that our children will be able to have additional recreational options in time for summer.”
