Big Bear, Ca, September 1, 2011, 3:00pm – In an effort to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist during the Labor Day holiday weekend, the California Highway Patrol will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on Monday, September 5th in the unincorporated mountain area of San Bernardino County. According to the CHP, a sobriety checkpoint is a proven effective tool for achieving safety for motorists and pedestrians. The CHP continues its efforts to reduce DUI related collisions through the Arrive Alive Campaign. During the last Arrive Alive Checkpoint on August 20th, 2,567 vehicles were screened in the Running Springs area, in which 13 drivers were administered sobriety tests, and one impaired driver was arrested. According to the CHP, their objective is to send a clear message to those considering mixing alcohol and/ or drugs with driving.
