A dispute over a snowblower resulted in felony charges for a 43-year-old Big Bear Lake resident yesterday. Per a statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the details are as follows: “Shortly after 10:30am on January 20, deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a call for service of criminal threats at a residence in the 41000 block of Big Bear Boulevard in Big Bear Lake. The reporting party stated a dispute had taken place over payment for damages to a snowblower and that he was now being threatened. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the reporting party and the suspect, 43-year-old Paul Quarto, a resident of Big Bear Lake, was arrested on felony charges for threatening the reporting party. At the time of contact with Quarto, deputies smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the residence. Quarto was also found to be in possession of a .223 caliber cartridge on his person. Deputies secured the residence and obtained a search warrant for Quarto’s house. During execution of the search warrant, deputies located several illegal assault rifles, including a stolen AK-47. A small marijuana grow was also located in the residence. Quarto was booked into the Big Bear Jail on additional felony charges of illegal possession of an assault weapon, assault with a firearm on a person, and possession of stolen property. Deputies petitioned the court and received a bail enhancement of a no bail warrant. Suspect Quarto remains in custody at West Valley Detention Center. An arraignment hearing is set for January 22 at the Big Bear Superior Court.”
