Big Bear Lake, CA – A fifth snow day has been called for all schools in the Bear Valley Unified School District for Wednesday, January 27, 2010. According to a press release sent by the school district office, County crews are working 24 hours a day on plowing and widening county roads and they anticipate receiving additional help and equipment in order to continue their efforts today. With over 50% of Bear Valley students residing and being transported from the unincorporated County areas of the Big Bear Valley, Bear Valley Unified School District needs to be assured the roads are safe for students to walk to their bus stops and wait for their bus as well as safe for the buses. Bear Valley Unified School District Transportation Staff will again be driving the bus routes today to check for safe transport of students as well as for maneuverability of buses on these roads. The District is working in close communication with the City of Big Bear Lake as well as the County of San Bernardino and will continue to cooperate with their efforts of clearing the streets of the Big Bear Valley for safe travel. Having school buses on the roadways of Big Bear Valley today could hamper these efforts. Also, according to the District office personnel, the decision to close schools will continue to be made on a day-by-day basis.
