Big Bear, Ca, September 8, 2011, 3:00pm – Sky High Training, Big Bear’s high altitude training destination for boxers, and mixed martial arts athletes, is hosting a sparring event against Twentynine Palms this Saturday, September 10th from 3:00 to 5:00pm. This free event will feature 13 local teens and adults who will compete in boxing, grappling, and kick boxing. Guest mixed martial arts fighter Thierry Sokoudjou, who has been training in Big Bear for the past few weeks, will also be at the event. Owner of Sky High Training Bob Antonacci told KBHR that the event will be a first time match for some of the younger participants. Antonacci said that 25 kids between the ages of 5 to 18 are sponsored and come to Sky High Training and learn either Taekwondo, boxing, or grappling for free. The kids are sponsored through a program, where business or organizations pay to have use of the facility, and the sponsor money goes to helping the kids. Antonacci told KBHR that it keeps some of these kids out of trouble, humbles them, and gives them something to focus on.
