Big Bear Lake, Ca May 24, 2011 8:00 am – The Shirt Shanty has been in the Village on the corner of Pine Knot and Village Drive since 1981. A few weeks ago, the store closed for remodeling and will be open this Friday with new owners, Claudia and Matt Scriven. In the store will be new t-shirt designs and souvenirs not currently sold in Big Bear. The Scrivens won’t sell heat-transfer shirts, but will have Big Bear memorabilia, shirts with humorous quotes, sunglasses, accessories, and jewelry. Claudia and Matt hope the new store will appeal to both Big Bear residents and visitors. After the Shirt Shanty’s Memorial Weekend re-opening, they will be participating in the June 4 Big Bear Lake Village Wine Walk, serving wine and food from Captain’s Anchorage. The Scrivens have been residents of Big Bear for two years, but Matt has a long history with the area. His grandparents, Dr Woodrow and Charlotte Meier have owned the Captains Anchorage Restaurant since the mid 1960’s and his parents were weekenders in Big Bear for many years. With their purchase of the Shirt Shanty, Claudia and Matt are looking forward to many years in Big Bear and a deeper involvement in the community.
