Big Bear Valley, CA — All Bear Valley Unified School District students will have a four-day weekend for the Memorial Day holiday, as this Friday (May 28) has been added as a no-school day, given a furlough agreement from the district’s bargaining units, CSEA and BVEA. In other news from BVUSD, all school sites will be participating in a disaster drill tomorrow morning at 10am so, parents, no need for alarm as this is just a standard, district-wide drill on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Big Bear Middle School hosts a special drum assembly, which will also be attended by the Valley’s sixth grade students, at BBMS for their school orientation; Big Bear High School students will participate in Day of Understanding assemblies this week. On Wednesday evening, current eighth grade students planning to participate in high school athletics should plan to be at Big Bear High School, as athletic physicals for the upcoming school year will take place between 4:45pm and 6:30pm. And in highlights from the BBHS Athletic Department, both the Bears varsity baseball and varsity softball teams advanced to first round CIF playoffs last week. The softball team lost their first match-up against Desert Christian, but end their season with a second place title in the DeAnza League. The Bears baseball team won their first game, 2-1 against Arrowhead Christian, and compete in a second-round playoff game tomorrow. The Bears host Montclair Prep at BBHS in a 3:15pm game on Tuesday.
