Big Bear, Ca, September 23, 2011, 1:00pm – A defunct NASA satellite, which has been falling from orbit over the past few months, is expected to enter the atmosphere tonight. According to KBHR’s own weatherman, and meteorologist Ben Brissey, the satellite will pass overhead around 7:47 this evening moving from the south west to the east. Brissey adds that Big Bear may have a great view of the satellite, if it hasn’t burned up in the atmosphere already. According to NASA, the risk to public safety or property is extremely small, and safety is NASA’s top priority. Since the beginning of the Space Age in the late-1950s, there have been no confirmed reports of an injury resulting from re-entering space objects. NASA also added that there is no record of significant property damage resulting from a satellite re-entry.
