Big Bear Lake’s Mayor Pro Tem Bill Jahn has been selected to be the District 11 representative to the Southern California Association of Governments. Jahn’s two-year SCAG appointment was made by the Board of the San Bernardino Associated Governments, or SANBAG, which he serves as an extension of his City Council duties. SCAG, which Jahn will now represent, is one of the largest of nearly 700 councils of government in the U.S. and, more locally, serves as the metropolitan planning organization for six counties including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura, Imperial and San Bernardino. The SCAG region encompasses an area of more than 38,000 square miles and a population of over 18 million. SCAG is mandated by the federal government to research and initiate plans for transportation, growth management, hazardous waste management, and air quality.
