Lucerne Valley, CA, April 4, 2014 – A memorial gathering is scheduled this weekend for longtime Big Bear Valley resident, Anne Rosemier. Anne passed away peacefully on March 19 at the age of 87.
Anne was retired from teaching, but she continued to do research on Big Bear history–something that had fascinated her since her first visit to the valley in 1951. Realizing that the “old-timers” stories would die with them if not recorded for posterity, she interviewed the last surviving members of such families as the Talmadges, Shays and Erwins. In the 1960s, she wrote a column in the Grizzly called “Profiles of Old-Timers”. She also wrote several children’s stories, which were first published in the old Big Bear Preview newspaper.
She and her husband, W.J. “Rip” Rosemier, began summering here in 1951, in a rustic cabin with no electricity. In 1962, the Rosemiers made Big Bear their permanent home, and she threw herself into mountain life: tending a cow for Bob’s Stables, competing in the Loggers’ Jubilee, and participating in the Big Bear Ski Club. After her husband’s death in 1971, she earned her Bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from Eastern New Mexico University.
Anne is survived by three sisters, four children, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Her life will be celebrated this Saturday, April 5th at the Lucerne Valley home of her daughter.
