Big Bear, Ca, June 9, 2011, 3:00pm – This Saturday, the Orange County Wheelmen, a bicycle club, is hosting the 27th annual Ride Around The Bear. This bicycle ride will take over 400 cyclists from Redlands, up HWY 18 past the Arrowhead Highlands and Running Springs, to the North Shore of Big Bear Lake and then back down HWY 38. This challenging ride will provide riders with 9000 feet of elevation gain in 106 miles. Motorists are encouraged to share the road with cyclists and watch for them along the route. There will be various aid stations along the route to provide riders with water, nutrition, and basic bike repairs. The Big Bear Cycling Association will be running one of these aid stations, which will be located at Dana Point Park in the Grout Bay area of Fawnskin. There will also be four roving vehicles that will aid riders in need. Organizers for the event ask that you please watch for riders, and share the road.
