Elementary school students who attend Rainbow Kids Club had a new bounce house to enjoy this summer, thanks to a donation by the Chatham family, in honor of their son David Chatham. Twenty-year-old Chatham, a 2007 Big Bear High School graduate, died last December 29 in an accident on the 15 Freeway, after spending Christmas with his family, which includes parents Mike and Julie (both BVUSD employees), now 17-year-old sister Sara, and the Hoover family. Chatham had worked with Big Bear’s youth at Rainbow Kids Club, as well as Vacation Bible School. According to the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District, after much debate and soul-searching, his family decided that, given input from Rainbow Kids Club staff and students, a portable jump house would be much used and appreciated at all three Rainbow Kids Club sites. The Rec & Park staff, which oversees Rainbow Kids, says that the kids had a blast using the jump house, dubbed David’s Playhouse, this summer, and will continue to enjoy at North Shore, Baldwin Lane and Big Bear Elementary Schools.
