Big Bear, Ca, April 3, 2011, 12:00pm – Roman van Uden, professional road cyclist from New Zealand for Pure Black Racing, won the pro men’s criterium at the Redlands Bike Classic on Saturday April 2nd. The New Zealand pro team Pure Black has been training in the Big Bear Valley last week, and will return to Big Bear this week to continue training at altitude. The Big Bear Cycling Association President Craig Smith welcomes Pure Black Racing, and credits the Tour of California coming to Big Bear as a reason why we are seeing more professional teams training in the Big Bear Valley. “The Tour of CA provided an opportunity for teams to see Big Bear, “ said Smith, “with our high altitude training capability, more teams are coming to train here, and given the win (by Roman van Uden at the Redlands Bike Classic) the training obviously makes a difference.” The Cycling Association is excited to have Pure Black training in Big Bear, and hope more teams choose to make Big Bear their training ground in the future. The Big Bear Cycling Association is a non profit organization that hosts community bike rides in the summer, as well as training rides, and encourages cycling as a way of transportation, a healthy form of exercise, and a great family activity.
