The Big Bear Lake Antique Car Club’s annual Fun Run has in years past been the Valley’s biggest economy-boosting weekend event of the year and this year’s August weekend, which marked the 20th annual Fun Run ’round Big Bear Lake, was another sell-out, including 515 classic and vintage automobiles. What is special about Fun Run is that it not only generates visitors to the Valley, but local service groups and organizations also benefit, as the Antique Car Club shares their proceeds each year. On November 9, two dozen groups were awarded an average of $600 each, in a presentation ceremony held at the Big Bear Discovery Center. Those local charities to benefit from the generosity of the Big Bear Lake Antique Car Club are Bear Mountain Dog Rescue, Bear Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary, Bear Valley Community Nursery School, Big Bear Valley Historical Society, Bear Valley Search and Rescue, Big Bear Diabetes Support Network, Citizens on Patrol, Civil Air Patrol, Discovery Center, Dobis Vocational Scholarship, Fuzzy House Slipper Gang Service Dog Training, Miss Big Bear scholarship, Kiwanis’ Bear Valley Medical Alert, Kiwanis’ Mountain Fun Day, Steven G. Mihaylo Foundation, American Association of University Women’s Tech Trek program, Jim Bollingmo Brain Tumor Foundation, Pinewood Derby, Rotary, Interact Club, Big Bear High School’s cross-country/track team, Friends of the Big Bear Library, High Altitude Baseball Club, and the Big Bear High School Jazz Band, which amounts to over $14,000.
