Big Bear, Ca, October 6, 2011, 12:00pm – With last night’s dusting of snow, now is the time to get your vehicle ready for winter. Make sure your vehicle has antifreeze in it, by checking your radiator fluid level and add antifreeze as needed. Windsheild Wiper blades should be replaced, if needed, and motorists should consider adding a winter formula windshield wiper fluid that will help deice your windshield. Make sure your tires are properly inflated and that the tread is in good condition. Always carry chains, as it is the law that motorists carry chains in their vehicle in the winter months. Make sure your chains or cables are the appropriate size for your tire, and that they are in proper working order. Chains must be installed on drive wheels, so you need to know if your car is front or rear wheel drive. Be sure to know how to install your chains or cables on your tires. Be prepared by having an emergency kit in your vehicle. The following items may be of use should you find yourself stranded in a snowstorm: a flashlight with extra batteries, blankets, extra clothing, water and snacks, a clean dry towel, ice scraper, and deicer, shovel, and sand or kitty litter, to help your vehicle get traction if you happen to get stuck. By preparing your vehicle for winter now, you wont be caught off guard when the first big storm hits.
