In celebration of Earth Day next Wednesday, April 22, Bear Valley Electric Service will host an Open House, which will include tours of the utility’s power plant and free hot dogs. Bear Valley Electric will also, once again, host HEAP application processing which, in months past, has been postponed due to severe weather. HEAP, which stands for the Home Energy Assistance Program, is offered to low-income families; those who qualify receive financial assistance with utility bills. Bear Valley Electric will process HEAP applications for the first 35 in line on the 22nd starting at 9am; another 20 applications will be processed at 1pm at the BVES offices, located at 42020 Garstin Drive. Those applying for HEAP are asked to bring the following: current gas and electric bills or, for propane, a current invoice with account number; rental agreement or mortgage statement; California picture ID and Social Security card; and employment verification, including pay stubs for all prior 30-day periods, for all household members. Questions on HEAP or the April 22 Earth Day celebration can be directed to Bear Valley Electric at 866-4678.
