Planning Commission Recommends City Council Approval of Affordable Apartment Complex on Knickerbocker Road

The proposed affordable housing complex for Knickerbocker Road has been reviewed by the Planning Commission of Big Bear Lake in, now, two Public Hearings and, in a decision made by the commission yesterday, the project has been recommended for approval by the City Council, who will address the proposal at their July 27 meeting. According to Jim Miller, the City’s Director of Building and Planning, the 42-unit affordable apartment complex on 2.6 acres will include additional visitor parking, per the Planning Commission’s request on July 22. The developer, Santa Ana-based Urban Housing Communities, had already complied with additional requests put before them at the July 1st Planning Commission meeting; those modifications included a good tree management plan and the construction of a sidewalk which will extend from Big Bear Elementary School on Pennsylvania Avenue south up Knickerbocker Road to the project site at 737 and 773, about 100 feet south of Maryland Road. Though the City Council agenda for July 27 has not yet been posted, it is expected that the affordable apartment complex project will be included.
