Big Bear Valley, CA — There are three public meetings* scheduled for today (Wednesday, May 5), starting with this afternoon’s 1:15pm meeting of the Planning Commission for the City of Big Bear Lake. Items on the agenda, for the meeting to take place in Hofert Hall in the Big Bear Lake Civic Center, include a special event application for the JazzTrax Festival for June’s third weekend and discussion regarding the demolition of 12 existing cabins in the 500 and 600 blocks of Jeffries Road, to allow for the construction of a 59-unit affordable apartment complex.
At 2:30pm, the Board of Directors for the Big Bear Airport District convene in the pilots lounge of the Big Bear City Airport. Snow continues to be on the agenda for the airport district, as General Manager Pete Gwaltney is agendized to give a January 2010 winter storm update, as well as provide information on funds recoverable from the FAA for the snow removal equipment facility.
The school board also meets today, with open session scheduled to begin at 6:30pm at the Bear Valley Unified School District offices on Moonridge Road. This evening’s meeting does not include budget cut action items, as those were addressed last Wednesday with a final determination scheduled for June 4, though BVUSD’s Tim Larson and Mike Chatham will present a technology update. The closed session portion of the BVUSD meeting does include ongoing negotiations with the district’s bargaining units, BVEA and CSEA, representing certificated and classified staff. The Board of Trustees also convenes on Friday, May 7, in a closed session meeting at noon, to address and potentially approve a parcel tax contract.
*As outlined in a story last week, the Lighthouse Project hosts a community forum on the public education funding crisis; forum takes place this evening at 6pm at Community Church by the Lake.
