January signals board reorganizations for local agencies and districts, though the City Council of Big Bear Lake elected Liz Harris as mayor in December. On Monday, the Community Services District named Marge McDonald to the presidential post, though the secret ballot aspect of the election will prompt a new vote this month or next. As of tomorrow, January 6, both the Big Bear Airport District and the Planning Commission for the City of Big Bear Lake will hold their elections.
The Planning Commission meets at 1:15pm Wednesday, in Hofert Hall in the Big Bear Lake Civic Center. The Commission, led by current Chairman Anne Zimmerman and Vice Chair Richard Lambert will, in addition to elections, consider a request from Snow Summit, to construct a new 10,340 square foot beginner’s center and ski and snowboard rental building, and to expand an existing 1,900 square foot building by 2,112 square feet for use as a kids camp; the two buildings would be on a 3.15 acre parcel zoned Commercial Recreation.
At 2:30pm, the Big Bear Airport District meets in the airport pilots lounge at the Big Bear City Airport. Elections are scheduled to take place during the meeting (at its new time); at present, Butch Waymire is president, and Jay Obernolte is vice president though, as this is the last year of the terms for both, newer Directors Julie Smith, Chuck Knight and Gloria Ann Greene may seek nominations. Following the Airport District Board meeting, there will be cake to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the district, as of December 17, 2009.
