Big Bear, Ca, April 17, 2011, 12:00pm – Sore feet, aching bones, and a sense of accomplishment surround Big Bear Locals Paul Romero, Karen Lundgren and their Brazilian teammates Rafael Campos and Mateus Ferraz Gil when they finished 4th in the Ecomotion/Pro Adventure Race. Through Mud, rain, scorching sun, and even more rain the team trekked, biked, climbed, and paddled their way for just over 4 days in the jungles of Brazil . The adventure racing team stayed consistently in the top four during the four – five day competition, staying in first for the majority of day one and two. Feet issues began on day two with Paul and Karen both getting bad blisters due to the constant trekking, and wet feet due to the rain. The team pushed on, to then have Paul’s bike brake in the middle of one of the bike portions pushing the team back. The race ended with a 56-kilometer bike ride, into a 54-kilometer paddle and finishing with a 1.1 k trek. In a video shown on their blog teamsole.com the team finished at night with Mateus and Rafael carrying Karen. For the last few feet she and the rest of the team walked their way into the finish, tired and happy to be done with the endurance race. The race started with 36 professional 4-person adventure racing teams competing. During the event 11 teams dropped out, and one was disqualified. KBHR congratulates team Quasar Lontra/ Team Sole and the rest of the finishers for their strength and determination in the Ecomotion/Pro 2011.
