Crestline, CA, July 10, 2012, UPDATED at 9:20am – Today firefighters will be completing and improving containment lines and mopping up hotspots within the interior of the burn. SR18 has been re-opened, but southbound traffic is reduced to one lane. The fire is 70% contained at 75 acres. Crestline, CA, July 10, 2012, UPDATED at 7:40am – The Panorama Fire is currently at 75 acres and is now 70% contained. The fire started at 1:54 pm on Monday July 9. It is burning above State Highway 18 in Waterman Canyon near Panorama Point. Highway 18 was closed yesterday, but now it’s open again. Voluntary evacuations have been lifted for residents in Waterman Canyon. There are no reports of any damage to structures. Three firefighters were sent to the hospital and treated for heat exhaustion. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Crestline, CA, July 9, 2012, updated 4:45pm – The Panorama fire has grown to over 75 acres it started in Waterman Canyon above SR 18 at about 2pm this afternoon. Highway 18 is closed between San Bernardino and Crestline. Bob Poole of the San Bernardino National Forest informed KBHR that shortly they intend to open Old Waterman Canyon to commuters and residents. It is dry and hot in the area with temperatures reaching 100 degrees with very low humidity. Ground fire crews along with helicopters and air tankers are on the scene. They are reporting that the fire is 10% contained. The fire is located in Waterman Canyon near Inspiration Point above the highway. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
