Last year’s TroutfesT included 1,000 participants, though 200 fishermen were turned away as the event sold out early. For this year’s event, to be held on Big Bear Lake on October 3 and 4, the entry deadline is September 23 and, at present, there are less than 200 spaces available for the trout derby, which includes cash prizes—and a tagged fish worth a brand new Ford F150 truck! (You may recall that, in the 2007 TroutfesT, first-time fisherman Adrean Flores of El Monte reeled in a tagged fish that scored him a new Toyota Tundra.) This year’s trout derby, co-hosted by Western Outdoor News and the Big Bear Municipal Water District, will be bolstered by the addition of nearly $15,000 worth of trout to Big Bear Lake. Entry forms for October’s TroutfesT are available at the MWD offices, located at 40524 Lakeview Drive, or via the Western Outdoor News website at WONews.com.
