Today’s forecast calls for more winds from the south, so we can expect more drift smoke coming our way from the Oak Glen Fire and the Pendleton Fire in Yucaipa. As of last night (September 2), fire officials report progress on both fires; The Oak Glen Fire has burned just over 1,100 acres and is at 75% containment, while the blaze in Yucaipa has been held to 860 acres and is at 95% containment. Residents of the area are no longer under a mandatory evacuation, and will receive more details at this evening’s 6pm community meeting at the Yucaipa Community Center. In the meantime, Highway 38 has remained open, but those in the Big Bear Valley should again expect drift smoke today and know that there are no fires that pose a threat to Big Bear at this time.
Update: As of 10am this morning, fire officials report that the Oak Glen Fire is now at 95% containment, while the Pendleton Fire in Yucaipa is 100% contained!
