Construction signs are appearing at the west end of the valley, as Caltrans prepares to start the $39 million project to rebuild a new bridge over the Bear Valley Dam. Lane closures with flagging will start today and continue through Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so prepare for delays of up to 20 minutes. The first order of business will be to place concrete barriers and restripe the lanes for construction. Clearing and grubbing for the project will begin next week – weather permitting, of course.
The new structure will be located on the south side of the dam. The project will also realign the roadway, construct three 12-foot travel lanes, 10-foot shoulders, and a 5-foot ADA-compliant sidewalk. The intersection of SR-18 and SR-38 will be signalized.
