A Sugarloaf resident was arrested on felony charges of Child Endangerment yesterday. Per the press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department today: “At approximately 2:30pm on November 4, the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station received a call for service that unsupervised juveniles were heard screaming inside a residence located in the 100 block of San Bernardino Avenue in Sugarloaf. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the front door of the residence to be locked and heard the screaming children inside. When no one answered the door, deputies gained access to the residence through an unlocked window and found three unattended juveniles–ages 7 months, 2 years and 3 years old–inside the house. A search of the residence confirmed that no adults were present in the house. Investigation revealed that there was no sign of forced entry into the house, nor was there any evidence that a struggle had taken place either inside or outside of the residence. The reporting party informed deputies that the mother of the children had left the residence in her vehicle some time between 1:30 and 2pm. Child Protective Services was called to the residence and the three juveniles were taken into the care and custody of CPS. Deputies regularly patrolled the area in an effort to make contact with the mother of the children. The mother, identified as Ellesse Shampo, a 24-year-old adult, returned to the residence shortly before 8pm and was advised by neighbors that the Sheriff’s Department had been at her house and Child Protective Services had taken the children. Deputies arrived at the house at 8pm and Shampo was taken into custody without incident. Shampo is currently being detained at West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bail on felony charges of child endangerment. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for November 6 at the San Bernardino County Superior Court.”
