Big Bear, CA, March 16, 2013 – Local community members organized a bake sale on March 2nd for Deputy Jeremiah MacKay to raise money for the fallen officer’s family. Deputy MacKay, a member of the Yucaipa Police Department, lost his life in a gunfight with Christopher Dorner in an attempt to apprehend the suspect in the area of Seven Oakes on February 12th. Another officer, Deputy Alex Collins, was shot and survived with severe injuries. The main local organizer of the bake sale was Wendy Craig. Mrs. Craig tells Kbear that to date, $3640.64 has been raised. At least 40 residents donated food for the bake sale with hundreds who came by the Middle School to buy baked foods and donate money to support the cause. Mrs. Craig described the event as a great caring and loving environment and an opportunity to give back. “People came by with food and would just stay for two hours”, she tells Kbear. Donations are still being accepted for both officers families. Mail your tax deductible donation to the Sheriff’s Employee Assistance Team, Attn: Kari Tesselaar, Sheriff’s Executive Staff, at 655 East Third Street, San Bernardino, CA 92415.
