There are two road closures temporarily in place this morning (Monday, September 21). In the 8 o’clock hour today, the brakes went out on a big rig traveling on Highway 330; the truck then hit two other vehicles, also prompting a diesel spill. Highway 330 was closed just before 9am, and per the CHP and CalTrans, will likely remain closed into this afternoon.
More locally, the Red Ant Hill portion of Highway 18/Big Bear Boulevard was temporarily closed, as of the 9am hour. Construction crews on the Red Ant Hill sidewalk project hit a gas line while working on the drainage system for the project. Traffic is being detoured from Red Ant Hill, which is just west of the Village and Paine Road and in the area that fronts the Alpine Slide.
In addition to these closures, motorists can expect ongoing traffic delays along Big Bear Boulevard, from Boulder Bay to Big Bear City, to accommodate CalTrans roadwork. The Boulevard project will account for weekday delays, from 8am to 3pm, through September’s end.
Update: Highway 330 is tentatively scheduled to re-open after 2pm–though CalTrans notes that this is an estimate, if all goes well. The Red Ant Hill portion of Highway 18/Big Bear Boulevard will be closed into this afternoon as well.
Update: Red Ant Hill has been re-opened to traffic in the noon hour, though motorists can expect ongoing flagging, to accommodate the sidewalk project.
Update: Highway 330 has been re-opened, just before 2pm.
