Joshua Tree National Park, CA, November 28, 2012 – Helen Melnyk and her friend Tony Nosow have been found after spending four nights stranded in the desert. They were rescued by helicopter after walking five miles before getting cell phone service to call 911. California Highway Patrol aircraft crew, rangers and volunteers searched about 1,200 square miles before locating the couple.

Search For Missing Couple
Joshua Tree National Park, CA, November 27, 2012 – The search is expected to continue today for Helen Melnyk, reported missing over the weekend in Joshua Tree National Park. According to members of the family, 56 year-old Helen Melnyk hasn’t been seen since Saturday morning when she went off-roading in the park with a 59 year-old friend named Tony. Helen Melnyk’s daughter, Kristina says she hasn’t been able to contact her mother by phone, no one answers. A spokesman at Joshua Tree National Park says they’re taking the claim seriously, but there’s no formal search underway. Administrators at the park have not been able to determine if Helen and her friend were ever in the park on Saturday. Helen Melnyk is 5’2″ tall, and when she was last seen she was wearing a gray short-sleeved sweater, black capri pants and black shoes.
