Old Miner’s Association Announces Grand Marshal

Big Bear, CA, May 13, 2013 – The Old Miners Association, in partnership with the City of Big Bear Lake and San Bernardino County, will host the Big Bear Heritage Parade on June 15th, the Saturday of Fathers Day weekend.  They are pleased to announce that San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Alex Collins will be this year’s grand marshal in a special event themed “Big Bear Thanks You” in gratitude for the support of law enforcement, first responders and military who protected our mountain community during the incident of February 2013 involving Christopher Dorner.  Deputy Collins, a member of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department since 2007 and a deputy with the Big Bear Station since 2008, sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the February 12 shootout with Dorner.   After multiple surgeries at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Captain Tom Bradford states, “Alex is on the road to recovery and we are looking forward to having him back at the Big Bear Station when he is ready.  The Sheriff’s Department thanks the Old Miners Days Association for their recognition of law enforcement efforts.”  The parade will begin at 4pm and will run along Big Bear Boulevard, from Summit Boulevard west to Georgia Street.  In addition to cheering Deputy Collins and all of our first responders along the parade route, the public is invited to salute them in a pre-parade reception, being held at the Big Bear Convention Center from 11am to 3pm. The meet-and-greet opportunity hosted by OMA and American Legion Post 584 will include the posting of colors by an All-Service Color Guard at noon, and remarks from local officials and military representatives, including Congressman Paul Cook, USMC retired, and San Bernardino County Sheriff McMahon.
