Big Bear, Ca, May 31, 2011, 3:00pm –
This past Memorial Day Weekend brought people to Big Bear from all over Southern California, and beyond. According to Dan McKernan, Director of Marketing and Public Relations of the Big Bear Lake Resort Association, Memorial Day weekend reservations through the RA’s central reservations were up 106% from last year, and that this was the best May for the Resort Association, and their members since 2005. These numbers reflect the Resort Association’s central reservations only, and do not reflect the rest of the lodging community in Big Bear. Despite cold weather on Sunday, many people stayed through till Monday to enjoy a beautiful Memorial day! Many local clubs and organizations saw an increase in participation such as the Big Bear Cycling Association, who had 15 visitors join them on their Saturday morning Community ride, and the first Seven Summits Hike had approximately 100 people in attendance. “It was exciting to see so many people on the first hike,” said McKernan, “and a good majority were from off the mountain.” McKernan also told KBHR that the trend with visitors was that they were spending more nights or upgrading their stay. With a great May ahead of us, and a beautiful full lake, a wonderful summer is in store for Big Bear!
