The first of the Man About Town events kicks off tomorrow evening, as a fundraiser for candidate Ace Evers takes place at La Montaña restaurant from 5 to 9pm. Dollar tacos will be available on Wednesday, and a gift basket will be featured in a raffle. On Sunday, March 15, Man About Town candidate Phil Hamilton will host a sock hop at the Elks Lodge with music by Slick City. The three-hour event begins at 6pm, and attendees are encouraged to dress in 50s attire for the sock hop. All funds raised by Evers, Hamilton, and third candidate Paul Ortuno will go toward the Soroptimists’ effort to eliminate teen violence in our community. The 16th Man About Town title will be bestowed on the candidate who generates the most votes, one dollar at a time, in the big event slated for Friday, April 24 at Big Bear High School.
Last year’s Man About Town fundraiser generated enough funds to purchase a bus for use by the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District. According to Rec and Park’s Reese Troublefield, “The teen bus was a much needed transportation tool for the youth of Big Bear Valley, and we use it nearly every day since we received it from the wonderful and generous Soroptimist ladies.”
For more about this year’s Man About Candidates, join us for “Tuned In on the Bear” with Kat Sawyer on March 11, as Ace, Phil and Paul will be her guests on KBHR in the 5 o’clock hour.
