Nigel Holland will celebrate his eighth birthday next Wednesday on a cruise with his family, thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Last October, doctors found a cancerous brain tumor on Holland, then in second grade at Big Bear Elementary, and he has since been receiving treatments at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. However, he’ll get a break from the hospital when he, 12-year-old brother Lucas and parents Tim and Monica enjoy a Disney Cruise, launching from Orlando, Florida. Prior to the trip, however, the Make-a-Wish Foundation–which wish-granter Janet Fraser tells KBHR, “Grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses to give them hope, strength and joy”—will host a bon voyage party for the Hollands at B’s Backyard BarBQ tomorrow evening. Tomorrow’s event at 6pm will not be a fundraiser (and food will not be provided, though available), but anyone who would like to see the Hollands off on their trip, which begins on Friday, should feel free to stop by B’s on Thursday evening. Representatives from the Make-a-Wish Foundation will also be on hand to wish Nigel and his family well. For more on Nigel, you can visit his CaringBridge website.
