Big Bear Lake, CA, February 24, 2011, 12 noon – The Lighthouse Project hosted their fourth annual Lighthouse Project 2011 Community Vision Summit last night at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center. Community members and leaders were welcomed by Mayor Bill Jahn and, by way of a video electronic greeting, County Supervisor Neil Derry. Ryan Hall addressed the full auditorium via Skype to welcome the attendees and discuss projects in the making for his non-profit organization, The Hall Steps Foundation. Past Lighthouse Project coordinator, Beth Wheat, highlighted some of the success stories of the Lighthouse Project including the Big Bear High School xeriscape project, PeaceBuilders and Peace Gardens at local schools and community forums for education. A video montage involving local service organizations and child-involved groups presented their #1 program for 2011 for supporting our child honoring community. Keynote Speaker, Ian Jukes, discussed continuing rapid advances in technology and how these changes will affect our children’s future and how we, as educators, can help. Also, he challenged everyone to do one thing to improve our community and support our children. Beth Wheat’s closing remarks included the invitation to volunteer at our local schools and be diligent this year with whatever you decide your one thing will be to improve the lives of children. After the program, attendees were invited to visit the Community Expo in Hofert Hall as well as purchase the Lighthouse Project’s first publication, “What Grows In A Garden” illustrated by local teen Katie Adams.
