The beginning of April signals the start of boating season on Big Bear Lake, as the Big Bear Municipal Water District opened both the east and west public launch ramps on the North Shore as of 6am this morning. The east ramp, also known as the Carol Morrison Public Launch, just east of Stanfield Cutoff will be open daily from 6am to 6pm, with extended hours until 7pm on both Friday and Saturday evenings. The east ramp, or Duane Boyer Public Launch, in the Fawnskin area is open daily from 6am to 6pm through the boating season. For each ramp, Lake Supervisor Travis Carroll says that as long as boaters arrive before closing time, they will be able to exit through the spike strips at each location. Prior to launch, from the public ramps or any private marina, each vessel will be subject to a Quagga Mussel inspection. To expedite this process, boaters should have their vessel—whether it be boat, kayak or float tube—clean, drained and dry.
