Big Bear, Ca, October 18, 2011, 12:00pm – Kurt Madden, Superintendent of Schools for the Bear Valley Unified School District, is making final preparations for his 100 mile run this Saturday, October 22nd. Madden is taking part in this event to promote childhood fitness, character development, and to raise proceeds to provide safe access to the track just east of Baldwin Lane Elementary School. Madden will be running 100 miles within a 30 hour time period, with the event taking competitors through three counties and 20 different cities, starting in Corona, and ending at the Santa Monica Pier. Mountain Fitness Center’s Ted Devito, and outdoor enthusiast Susan Maya will be supporting Madden during the event. Big Bear’s new Superintendant is no stranger to ultra distance events, having competed in Ironman Triathlons, Ultraman Three Day Triathlons, a 100 mile trail run in Leadville Colorado, and has also set a national age group record by running 200 miles in 48 hours. Madden is estimating that it will take approximately $25,000.00 for the track project which will provide safe access to the track just east of Baldwin Lane Elementary School.
