Big Bear, Ca, October 24, 2011, 3:00pm – Big Bear Valley School District Superintendent, Kurt Madden, set a great example for the students of the valley this past weekend when he ran 100 miles in under 24 hours. The event was called the 100 Mile Endurance Challenge, and all of the athletes running in it were raising funds for kids and the 100 Mile Club. The 100 Mile Club is a non profit organization that works to stop childhood obesity by encouraging students to run 100 miles within one school year. Madden ran for the Big Bear Valley, and in particularly he ran for students at Baldwin Lane Elementary, to help them gain access to the track behind the school. Madden was lucky to have a top notch crew for the race. Ted Devito, Cathleen Calkins and Susan Maya saw Kurt through the entire race, with Ted sometimes running alongside Kurt, and Susan and Cathleen pacing him on the bicycle. Kurt ended up running for 22 hours and 30 minutes, and finished third overall in the race.
