Big Bear, Ca, May 26, 2011, 3:00pm – The Bear Valley Unified School District has announced that at the May 26th meeting of the Board of Trustees, Kurt Madden was unanimously voted to become the next Superintendent of Schools. According to BVUSD, Madden’s selection was the culmination of an extensive nationwide search conducted by the Board, and assisted by the office of San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools. Madden comes to Big Bear Valley after serving the past 4 years as a Principal in San Diego. Madden has 32 years of professional experience in education in Southern California with 16 years in the classroom, and 16 years in various administrative positions. Madden told KBHR that he is excited to move up to the Big Bear Valley as he is an outdoor enthusiast and has competed as a professional triathlete. After an extensive paper screening, reference checks and interviews, representatives of the Board and the County Superintendent visited the community of San Diego where Madden has been living and working. They interviewed over forty individuals including community members, parents, teachers, students, principals, district administrators, school staff and board members. The visitation team consistently heard high praise and accolades regarding Kurt and felt that he is an excellent match for the Bear Valley community. Madden will start the position effective July 1st, 2011.
