Big Bear, Ca, August 25, 2011, 12:00pm – Two fires that started this week have been contained. The first started on Monday in the Cajon pass area, known as the Ken Fire, which prompted a closure of interstate 15 in both directions for a brief period. According to the US Forest Service, during the height of the battle, over 600 firefighters consisting of fire engines, hand crews, dozers, and water tenders fought the fire on the ground and were supported by six helicopters and six airtankers. Two US Forest Service firefighters were injured, one suffered a knee injury and another firefighter suffered a heat related injury, both were transported to a local hospital. The fire grew to a total of 375 acres and was 100% contained last night at 6pm. The Glass fire which started late afternoon yesterday was quickly attacked by fire crews, and they held the small fire at 1 acre.
