Big Bear City, CA, August 2, 2012, noon – The Big Bear Valley Community Emergency Response Team recently elected their new Executive Board for 2012-2013. The President is McKenzie Simmons, the Vice President is Tina Nazarian, Yomar Cleary is the Secretary and Sharon Strandberg is the Treasurer.
Michael Ramirez from the Office of Emergency Services installed the new board and presented 23 CERT members with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. The awards included a letter from President Obama, a personalized Certificate and a Presidential Service Award lapel pin for their many volunteer hours. The Community Emergency Response Team is a group of community-based volunteers that responds to emergency situations in the Big Bear Valley in times of disaster. CERT members can give critical support to first responders, and provide immediate assistance to victims. The next CERT training class is scheduled for October.
