Though Bear Valley Unified students do not return to school until August 4, the Hummingbird Project is already helping families to prepare—and enjoy some activities in the meantime. The non-profit Hummingbird Project is now taking applications from low-to-moderate income families, as school supplies will be distributed to those in need at the end of July. The Hummingbird Project will, for students enrolled in BVUSD, be supplying backpacks, paper, pencils, crayons and other essentials. They also have funding available for families in need whose children want to participate in activities offered by the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District this summer. For more information on school supplies and other offerings for students, visit the Hummingbird Project Thrift Store, located at 400 West Big Bear Boulevard in Big Bear City, or call Elaine Tennity at 584-8642.
