Big Bear Valley, CA, September 10, 2010, 12:10pm – Bear your red and white colors in support of the Big Bear High School football team’s night game tonight with the return of “Friday Night Lights”. Tonight is a historic event for the Bear’s as this is only the second time in history that the team has played under the lights in Big Bear. The last time the team played a local night game was in 2006 for a CIF playoff game. Dave Griffiths, Head Coach and Athletic Director for Big Bear High, tells Kbear the decision was made to rent lights for tonight’s game against Rio Hondo Prep from Arcadia to help boost gate revenues. In response to the state budget crisis, Griffiths adds they are trying to do things differently and the idea for tonight’s “Friday Night Lights” game is to bring out folks who normally wouldn’t be able to attend a Saturday afternoon game. Gate revenues from football, volleyball and basketball help cover the costs for officials for all of the High School sporting events. Gates open at 3:45pm at Minder Field at Big Bear Middle School on Jefferies for the Frosh/Soph game at 4:15 pm and Varsity will play at 7:00 pm. Admission is $2.00 with an ASB card for students and $6.00 for general admission. The entire community is invitied to come out and support our Big Bear youth for tonight’s “Friday Night Lights” game. Go Bears!
