Highway 38 Closed But Campgrounds Remain Open in Angeles Oakes

Mentone, CA, June 28, 2013 – According to the CHP, Highway 38 is closed in both directions due to the Mill Fire.  The downbound traffic closure begins at Lake Williams with the exception of campers heading to Angeles Oakes and Seven Oakes campgrounds, which remain open.  The campgrounds are only accessible from Big Bear.  Highway 38 is closed in Mentone to upbound traffic due to this fire.  The Mill Fire was reported at 2:09pm this afternoon and is currently at just over 200 acres burning south of the Mill Creek Ranger Station.  Some structures have been lost and evacuations are in effect there.  We are told the Mill Fire is no threat to Big Bear but smoke is visible in the Valley.
