San Bernardino Mountains, Ca, February 10, 2011, 1:00pm –CalTrans is now moving in to beginning Phase III of the Highway 330 project. Phase I and Phase II are not complete; all three phases will take place simultaneously. The contractor for Phase II, Skanska, has completely excavated the down bound lane at the location where a cavern had been carved under the road. They have set the new culvert pipe, and have begun slurry backfill partially to protect the pipe, and have commenced backfilling. Skanska has nearly completed pioneering a road down to the streambed at the large slide, where the contractor will begin constructing a rock bolt wall, which will create access for equipment to cross the large slide. The last remaining contract to repair 330 (Phase III) has been awarded to Sima for $6.5 Million. Sima will work on the upper portion of the main slip out, and will also repair some of the old culverts. “The contractors are really moving along,” said Darrin Cooke, Public Information Officer for CalTrans. Currently the projected finish date is set for October of 2011.
