Big Bear Lake, CA, August 13, 2014 – Bear Valley Electric Service is warning its customers of a current phone scam. People posing as representatives of the agency are calling residents threatening service interruption and demanding their credit card numbers for immediate payment.
BVES Director Harry Scarborough says it’s against company policy to demand payment over the phone using threats of shutting off the power.
If someone feels they’re being targeted by a scammer, they should end the call immediately, call the electric company to check their account, and report the incident to the Sheriff’s Station.
These types of scams are also affecting Southern California Edison customers all across the country.
