Big Bear, Ca April 9, 2011 3:00 pm – Get the Burger recently received the highest rating possible from the San Bernardino County Health Department. Owner Eric Schwartz told KBHR, “100% is what we’ve strived for.” From the time the 50’s diner style hamburger restaurant opened in Big Bear City, Schwartz has been checking with the health inspector, improving his restaurant’s cleanliness and health safety procedures. When Eric and his wife Lynn purchased the property at their current location on the corner of Foxfarm Road and Big Bear Boulevard almost 2 years ago, they were able to add equipment and fixtures to make the restaurant exactly the way they wanted it. Last month, they received their 100% rating. Schwartz says restaurants that feature grilled food don’t often manage high cleanliness ratings. By cleaning their hood and grates nightly, filtering their fry oil every day, and mopping all the floors, even under the equipment, Get the Burger manages to avoid any build up. They have added other food safety procedures in their quest to maintain the highest standards as well. A unique restaurant in many ways, Schwartz says they sell both Pepsi and Coke, use only 100% trans-fat free oil in their fry machines, and sell the most ice cream, in the form of malts, shakes, and sundaes, of any restaurant serviced by their Corona based supplier. Schwartz credits the restaurant’s success with his willingness to work with the health department and his attention to detail. And, he says, he and his wife couldn’t do it without their great staff.
